What are some good budgeting tips for beginners?

Hey Folks, I’m trying to get better at budgeting and saving money. My wife and I make decent incomes, but we think we could do better. Anyone have some solid, repeatable habits that have worked for you? Looking for anything that’s simple and effective. Thanks!

Totally get you! One thing that works for us is grocery shopping once a week. It helps cut down on impulse buys.

Same! We also make a list before going, otherwise it’s chaos, lol.

Agreed! I try to stick to my list too or else it’s all snacks, haha.

Setting clear financial goals helps too. Like instead of just saving, aim for a specific trip or something!

Yeah, that makes it feel more real! What kind of goals do you have in mind?

Exactly! We’re saving for a vacation next year. It’s motivating!

I like to use budgeting apps, but they can be hit or miss. Anyone have favorites?

I’ve tried YNAB and it’s pretty good! It really makes you think about your spending.

I prefer good old Excel. It’s flexible and I can customize it to what I need.

Pay yourself first! Set aside savings as soon as you get paid, then spend what’s left.

I like that idea! But what do you mean by paying yourself first?

It just means saving a portion of your paycheck before anything else. Super helpful!
