How do I track family spending across different accounts?

Hey guys, I need some help figuring out how to track both my family’s and my individual spending. My husband and I have our own accounts, plus a joint checking account for groceries and childcare costs. Sometimes I use my personal card for groceries since I earn more, and it’s easier than moving money around. I’m looking for an app that helps me see the overall spending on groceries, childcare, and other categories, no matter where the money is coming from. I’m considering YNAB since we currently use DollarBird, but I’m not sure if it can do what I need. Any ideas?

You might want to check out Fina Money! You can create different profiles under one account and split out your spending into categories. It gives you a combined report when you need it.

Cool, so could I look in the report to see how much was spent on ‘groceries’ in 2024 from profile 1 and profile 2 combined?

@Val
Yep, that’s totally supported. It’ll give you a clear picture!

What OS are you using? Some apps have better options depending on if you’re on Mac, Windows, or Linux.

If you don’t mind manual logging, SpendCircle is cool! You’d both see every dollar spent, no matter which card you use.

I’ve really liked using Couple’s Better Budget. It’s manual too, but it’s helped my wife and me track everything easily, including joint expenses!

I don’t budget per se, just track everything in an Excel sheet. I go through our bank apps weekly and categorize it all. Kinda old school but it works!

I used to do that too, but with a baby, I can’t keep up. I need something more automated.
