How do i budget rent in NYC on taking home 600-700$ a week? I also have a car bill almost 400 a month, and about 250-300 in tolls every month.
That only leaves 1700, that’s not a lot. Maybe you can room up with someone. Also, why are you driving in NYC? Can’t transit?
Spending 700 on a car when you only make 2400 is insane. And in one of the few car-free cities in the usa
My job basically requires a car. Everyday different location of nyc. Plus i live in the outer borough so driving is necessary. Unless i wana commute 5 hours a day lol
Is it an actual business expense that you can deduct? Otherwise your company should be helping you if driving is required
DSNY bro. They dont help.
damn then idk man. spending 1/3 of your income on a car is just crazy. what’s even the point
but anyway when it comes tax time you should deduct your milage. there is a part (in turbotax for example) for “expenses used for my full time job”. that’s a lot of wear and tear, gas, and tires you’re spending on your job. hopefully that’ll free up some funds and you can decrease your withholding. talk with a tax profesisonal
but yeah with 1700 left over, you probably need to find a roommate. you still gotta feed yourself and save. are you debt free, is retirement on track, etc
You probably can’t is the reality. I mean somebody else might be able to find you rent that fits this but between food and life I don’t see how you can rent, food and life on $1700 a month. At least not reliably.
@DAVE Life sucks. I have a city job and im basically making the same as a mcdonalds worker lol. Depressing.
You’re looking to live with roommates. Multiple roommates, like 3-5, sharing 1-2 bathrooms. It’s not fun but yes it’s possible.
At $700/week, or $2800/month, rent needs to be under $500 with utilities included. Car payments, gas, and other essentials leave little room. You’ll need a higher-paying job or extra income
I don’t think you make enough.
