How did your budget go this year... any surprises?

I’m just being nosy, but since it’s the end of the year, I really want to know how your budget turned out. Did you end up going over budget at all this year? In what categories did you see that happening? Any trends you noticed that surprised you or that you’re planning to change for next year?

Honestly, I went way over budget in dining out. It was just so easy to order takeout with everything going on. I didn’t think it would add up so fast.

I feel you on that. Same here with takeout. I thought I was keeping it under control, but then I looked at my statements and was like, wow!

@Mal
Right? It sneaks up on you. I’m thinking of setting a stricter limit for next year. Maybe just one takeout night a week?

I actually went over budget in groceries. I tried to eat healthier, but organic stuff is so pricey! Anyone else notice that?

For sure! I went over too. I started buying more fresh produce, and it really adds up. I didn’t think veggies could be so expensive lol.

@Winter
Exactly! I thought I was doing something good for my health, but my wallet is feeling it too. Maybe I should look for sales more often.

I managed to stick to my budget overall, but I definitely overspent on entertainment. With all the streaming services, it really adds up. Anyone else got sucked into that?

Yup, I get it. Between Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+, I’m drowning in subscriptions. I need to cut back or just pick one or two!

@Ash
Same! I’m thinking of doing a subscription audit. I might cancel a couple if I’m not using them enough.

I didn’t really go over budget, but I learned that I need to track my spending better. I had some unexpected expenses pop up that I wasn’t prepared for.

Totally get that. It’s like life always throws surprises at you. I’ve started using a budgeting app to keep better track. Have you thought about trying one?

@Val
I haven’t, but I’m considering it. Any recommendations for apps that are easy to use?

I’m curious if anyone noticed any specific trends in their spending this year? Like, did you find yourself saving more in certain areas or just spending more overall?

Interesting question! I think I saved a bit more on commuting since I’ve been working from home. That was a nice surprise.

@Vanya
Oh for sure! I saved a ton on gas. But I ended up spending that on home office stuff instead, so it balanced out.
