Hi all,
I’m planning to start budgeting to save for a big purchase in the next year. What tools or apps do you recommend for someone new to budgeting? Also, any tips on sticking to the budget once it’s set?
Thanks in advance!

I changed to mint. It didn’t have as much information about the budget as budget tracker, but it did the job, and the rules-based automatic tracking of transactions saved a lot of time. Mint is turned into credit karma, which is a bad thing. You can see what’s been done, but not make a budget.
Mint: A well-known budgeting app providing free features such as account aggregation, budgeting tools, and spending categorization.
YNAB (You Need a Budget): This app employs a distinctive budgeting approach that prioritizes assigning every dollar a specific purpose. It offers a free trial followed by a subscription requirement.
EveryDollar: This free app is rooted in Dave Ramsey’s budgeting principles, emphasizing zero-based budgeting, where every dollar of income is allocated.
Goodbudget: Another free app utilizing a virtual envelope system for budgeting, facilitating clear visualization of spending.
For someone new to budgeting, there are several user-friendly tools and apps available to help you track your expenses and save for your big purchase. One highly recommended option is YNAB (You Need A Budget), known for its intuitive interface and comprehensive budgeting features. Mint is another popular choice that syncs with your bank accounts to automatically categorize expenses and track your spending. EveryDollar offers a straightforward approach to zero-based budgeting, while PocketGuard provides real-time insights into your finances and helps you identify areas where you can save. As for sticking to your budget, here are a few tips: set realistic goals, track your spending regularly, prioritize your purchases, automate savings contributions, and reward yourself for staying on track. Additionally, consider reviewing your budget periodically to make adjustments as needed and stay motivated towards reaching your financial goals.
