Hey folks, I’m curious about how much I could realistically spend on rent if my income is $2600 a month and I have no other bills to worry about. What do you think is the most I could allocate to rent?
Financial experts generally recommend that rent and housing costs should not exceed 30% of your monthly income. So, if your monthly income is $2600, your ideal rent budget would be around $780. However, if you have no bills and can manage your other expenses well, you might be able to allocate a higher percentage to rent.

That makes sense. So if I wanted to push it a bit, how much could I go up to?

Some people even say you could go up to 50% if you’re comfortable, which would be $1300. Just make sure you’re okay with the other costs that might come up.
I would be cautious about going too high on rent. It’s easy to overlook other potential expenses, even if you don’t have bills right now.

Good point. I guess it’s all about finding that balance, right?
@Blake
Exactly. You might want to save some for emergencies or unexpected expenses too.
What if you want to rent a place in a more expensive area? Should that change your limit?

It could. In high-cost areas, you might need to adjust your budget, but just be sure to weigh the trade-offs.
@Sorrell
Thanks for the advice! Definitely something to consider.
