Hi all,
I live with my parents in the UK & am 31. I’m still nowhere close to being able to live on my own I earn 27,000 a year & I did an excel spreadsheet put in rent, council tax, bills & food & after everything I needed I’d only have £70 each month. Now clearly this isn’t doable & is just ridiculous. I could afford to house share but I suffer from poor mental health & wouldn’t be able to live with others. Plus I’m 31, most places on spare room say 30 is the max age?!
Low income single people, what do you do?

Think about options to increase your income. Such as, learn a skill/language/finish a degree/specialised driver’s license, etc to improve your employment opportunities.

Not in your position but just wanted to check if you’ve put your info into a benefits checker?
There’s lots of top up benefits for low income might be worth a look?

Thanks I did check & I’m not eligible for anything. The only way I would be is if I worked 16 hours a week (I work full time) xx

Can’t offer real advice without your income, expenses, debt, and savings details. It’s doable on 25k.

Get on Upwork and find American clients. Pay in the UK is a joke compared to the US. You can probably double your pay with limited effort.

If you were in the U. S., $70 left over each month after every thing was paid would be a windfall.

Lucky to have something leftover. A lot are paycheck to paycheck with nothing at the end of a pay period and any leftover money is celebrated.
I’ve been where you are and I wish you well in your future endeavors.
