ISO an app that suits the way I think about money... any recommendations?

I’ve been using Simplifi for the last year, but it doesn’t really fit the way I think about money. I’m looking for something that fits the following criteria:

  1. Syncs transactions from my financial institutions so I don’t have to manually input everything.
  2. Money leftover in a category at the end of a budget period rolls over to the next period.
  3. Lets me work in flexible time periods; I’m paid biweekly, so I’d like to budget biweekly.
  4. Decent pricing. I think Simplifi is $4 or $5 per month. I’ve found one or two apps that have the above features but are more expensive than Simplifi. I might be willing to pay more if it has the features I want, but I want to find the best deal.
  5. It should be accessible from any device, whether it has a good web app that works well on mobile, or native apps for different platforms.
  6. It should save my data in the cloud, not on the device, so my wife and I can access the same account.

Most of these I can do with a Google Spreadsheet, and have done so in the past, but manually inputting transactions is a huge pain that we don’t have time for anymore.

I started downloading apps to look at their features and pricing, but they often gate their pricing models behind creating an account, and I don’t want to make 30 accounts to try them all out, so I’m hoping crowdsourcing can save me some hassle here.

I just started using Actual Budget today. It’s $1.80/month for hosting, a bit more for auto sync. I think it meets all your criteria.

Have you looked at YNAB? It’s a bit more expensive, but it has a lot of great features and might fit your needs.

Check out EveryDollar. It has a free version and rolls over budget amounts, but you might need the paid version for auto sync.

Mint is free and syncs transactions, but it can get a bit cluttered. It might be worth trying out.

If you’re okay with a bit of manual entry, I found that using Google Sheets with some templates can be pretty effective, too.
