I’m hoping someone can recommend a book or system that could help me manage my money better. My primary issue with systems I’ve tried in the past is that they are very “future” and “goal” oriented. I am a very “in the moment” person. I’m not conscious of the future much of the time, and I hate tracking or monitoring things as it takes me out of the moment.
I don’t want to fight my own nature or try to change this aspect of my personality. Instead, I’m looking for a budgeting approach that focuses more on building good habits rather than tracking every expense or constantly planning for future goals. Any suggestions for resources or methods that align with this mindset would be greatly appreciated
The Envelope System is a simple method where you assign cash to various spending categories. Rather than focusing on tracking every expense, it emphasizes setting limits for each category, making it easier to manage your finances without getting caught up in detailed monitoring.
Hi everybody, I’m in the same boat as you, struggling with traditional budgeting systems that focus too much on future goals and detailed tracking. I’ve found that a more intuitive approach, like the “Cash Envelope System,” might work well if you prefer not to constantly track expenses. This method involves dividing your cash into envelopes for different spending categories, which helps build good habits without constant monitoring. Another option is the “Mindful Spending” approach, which encourages making thoughtful spending choices without rigid tracking. These methods align with a more present-focused mindset and could be a good fit for you.
Hey, for a more in-the-moment approach, try the “Envelope System.” You just set aside cash for different categories (like food, fun, etc.) and use that until it’s gone. No tracking, no future planning—just sticking to what you’ve got.
Seemingly y’all love this envelope system, would you mind sharing what it entails in entirety? I tried to understand @Planner comment but I have a few concerns, what happens when the money you allocated for a certain activity or item is exhausted? with the inflation I am trying to imagine being caught off guard on a few occasions… Please help me understand how envelope system works or direct me to a place that I can access all the info about it.
I totally relate to the challenge of traditional budgeting methods that can feel overwhelming. If you’re looking for a simpler, more intuitive approach, you might want to try the “Cash Envelope System.” This method involves allocating cash into envelopes designated for different spending categories, which can help you manage your money without the need for constant tracking.
Another option is the “Mindful Spending” approach, which focuses on making thoughtful spending decisions rather than adhering to a strict budget. Both of these methods emphasize a more present-focused mindset and might work better for those who find detailed tracking cumbersome.
