How Much of Your Income Should You Spend on Food?

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to figure out how much of my income should ideally go towards food expenses. Is there a rule of thumb or percentage that most people follow? Would love to hear how others manage their food budgets!

Thanks for sharing your tips!

I always heard 10% for grocery

Eating out is the entertainment category and non food items like tp is in a house budget.

That is how I do it. Ymmv

Budgeting around 10-15% of your gross income for food is advisable. This percentage can help maintain a healthy balance between food costs and other financial obligations.

Yeah, as everyone agrees, 10-15% of your net income makes the most sense. However for me, I spent about 7 or 8% Reason? Meal planning and bulk cooking. You’d be surprised how much you can save when you eat out less, plan your meals and cook them in bulk.
