How does your family (2 parents with at least 2 teen children) spend on food per month?

I want to avoid comments from all the naive budgetingtalkers who don’t realize how expensive it is to feed teenagers, especially boys. I have 3 teen boys and we’re $2500 a month easily in Ohio. That’s $5 per meal per person.

We have a blended family and up to 9 mouths to feed depending on the day of the week. We’re probably spending $1200, but somehow, we need to figure out how to lower it. It’s my husband and I, my 20, 17, 3 and 1 year olds. Then once per week and eow his 11, 10 and 6 year old’s are here.

I have 6 brothers, and when we were teens, food never went to waste. We’d shop at Costco weekly, and groceries were needed so often that I could save by keeping leftover change. Costco is great for keeping protein costs low—$100/month covers two adults’ daily servings, and it could help your budget even if teens eat a lot.

Wow. My husband is a teenage boy I’m realizing. He is the main driver of our grocery bill. It’s a battle for me because I can get away with just $50 for me a week but for him we spend like $150 lol. He eats sooo much!

@JANO10 Yep I remember when I first got married I’d cook what I thought was enough for us to both have dinner and lunches the next day and then it would all be gone that night lol

Two parents and two adult children in Michigan and we do $1000/month including cleaning supplies, feminine products and paper goods

@JOSH Same here and I run a day care. But we eat out a lot with busy HS kids

How? Do you get free food?

@DAVE No free food. Stock up on sale items we use and try to meal plan for the whole month at a time.
