Help creating a budget!

Hi, I recently got married, and I have always done a great job of managing my finances. However, now that my wife and I are married and have a joint account, our income flows into it at different times of the month, and we both have different bills. As a result, I feel completely overwhelmed when I try to construct a budget for the two of us. Any advice on how a married person should make a budget?

Before anything else, I think that you and your wife could arrange with your bank to be automatically deduct the recurring bills as soon as they are due

Just married? Budgeting for two can be tricky! Here’s the key:

  • Talk openly with your wife about money goals and spending habits.
  • Choose a budgeting method (app or spreadsheet) that works for both of you.
  • Track income (both of yours) and expenses (shared and separate).
  • Prioritize spending - what’s most important and where can you cut back?

Remember, a budget is a tool to help you work together, not a strict rulebook.
