My team and I are developing budgeting software for couples and want to gather input to make it useful. Please share any ideas! Here are some questions to get started: What features do you wish your current budgeting tool had? What are your frustrations and good points about it? Would you pay for such software? How would you want to access it—phone, computer, web, etc.? What devices do you use? Would you like to stay in touch for more feedback during development? Suggest any other features and why.
I’m an Apple user and do budgeting with a Mac using Apple Numbers and AppleScript. Good points: I own my data, easy customization, and I can maintain income/expense data separately via .csv imports. Frustrations: different data structures from each source and duplication with my own records. I wouldn’t pay for budgeting software, but I know there’s a market.
@Joss
Hi, can I know what you use AppleScript for?

I use it to generate the .csv file for importing expense data into my budget spreadsheet.
I use Google Sheets and it works for us. Features I’d like: automatic import of income and expenses. I wouldn’t pay for it. I’d access it on my phone and computer—iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, and Windows.

Did you try any other tools for budget tracking?
@Bay
No, I’ve only used spreadsheets. I mean an app that automatically imports data whenever I get paid or spend on a credit card.
There are so many free resources, it might be tough to sell another budget sheet. I use Google Sheets but am considering trying EveryDollar.
A major pain point for me is consolidating purchases across multiple cards and bank accounts. For example, a transfer from my bank account to my credit card can double count spending if I just aggregate CSV exports.
@Chen
Do you use spreadsheets as well?
