Capital One is terrible. They don’t protect my money at all, and I’ve just been taking losses. But this last time I put down a deposit on an apartment in NYC that turned out to be a scam, and they denied my claim. Speaking with them on the phone has been beyond frustrating. I NEED another bank that actually cares about their clients, where I can sit down with someone in person at a branch. I can’t bank with Chase, Bank of America, or Wells Fargo. What are my options?
No bank will reimburse fraud that you brought about yourself by giving your info to fraudsters. I haven’t had any problems with security at Cap 1. Try a local credit union.

They said they would refund me if I didn’t move forward, and they stopped all communication. It’s not like fraud in that way.
I doubt any other bank would cover you in this instance either, but I may be wrong. You should probably pursue legal action against the person who defrauded you for the apartment deposit.
I don’t think this is the right subreddit for your question.
Why can’t you bank with Chase, Wells Fargo, or Bank of America? It sounds like you authorized the charge, so it wouldn’t be considered fraud. You could sue the company that took the deposit in small claims court if you want your money back.
@Wilder
True, thanks.
You need to file a dispute and write a letter to Capital One. I just did this because I was overcharged by a merchant. I’m not sure if I won the case yet, but I’ve delayed the payment by at least 3-4 months by doing this.
@Tate
Exactly, you’re not sure if you won the case lol. This isn’t my first rodeo. I’ve let them slide before, but this is a bigger transaction and they denied me even though I sent proof and everything.
