Best Software/Method to Get a Clear Picture of Family Expenses Over the Past Year?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on the best way to get a clear picture of my family’s expenses over the past year. We’re a family of three, and we have a new baby on the way, so I want to make sure our finances are in order.

I want to put together all of our recent spending to see if I need to start working more hours or if we can just trim our budget. I used YNAB (You Need A Budget) years ago and set it up again tonight, but it seems to focus more on future planning with our current account balances rather than giving a clear picture of our past spending.

I’m trying to figure out if we’re overspending in unexpected categories. Is there any software or app that can make this easier?

For analyzing past expenses, you might want to try tools like Mint, PocketGuard, or Personal Capital. They offer detailed expense tracking and can help you see where your money went over the past year. They also provide insights into spending patterns and may help identify areas where you can cut back.
